Deepti Naval - Centerpiece Presentation
2/7/12 - Tampa, FL - India International Film Festival Tampa is proud to announce that world renown actress and filmmaker, Deepti Naval, will be among the celebrity guests at the opening night of our Third Annual Film Festival. It is honor to welcome Naval to IIFF Tampa because encompasses our vision and goal of continually providing the highest quality of Indian inspired films to the Bay area. In 2009, Naval directed Do Paise Ki Dhoop, Chaar Aane Ki Baarish, which received rave reviews during its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Naval's career dates back to the late seventies, when she got her big break as an actress in Bollywood films. While the Indian film industry is known for producing the most number of films per year across the globe, it is quality, not quantity, that inspired Naval's move to the independent film world.
In similar fashion, IIFF Tampa goes beyond Bollywood, to showcase independent films and documentaries that would otherwise go unrecognized. Our featured films cover a wide range of intriguing topics including romance, the Occupy Wallstreet movement, arranged marriages, homosexuality, music, suspense and the influence of social media on today's society. We also have a diverse selection of languages that will be featured including Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati and Urdu. This year, we are proud to include six-time award winning Tamil feature Aadukalam and a Gujarati film called Patang, which explores the culture and nostalgia surrounding the kite flying holiday in Ahmedabad, India.
Within just three years of its inception, IIFF Tampa has created success stories and inspired filmmakers here at home and across the nation. After attending last year's festival, Tampa Bay resident Hemant Dinkar was in awe of how tremendous talent was translated to film. In fact, it inspired him to explore his own passion for directing. Hemant never could've imagined that this year, his first work of art will be shown on the big screen. His story is just one example of how the film festival not only showcases up and coming filmmakers, it helps breed their innovation.
IIFF Tampa is proud to continue this tradition by hosting its first film school this year. So far, we are the only Indian Film Festival in the country to do so, thanks to some of the best and brightest local scriptwriters, directors, cinematographers and film experts, who have made this opportunity possible. This unique, boot camp-style film school will take place on Feb. 4th and 5th for a minimal cost of $179.99.
